Verizon Wireless has confirmed today that they will soon start charging subscribers $30 as part of an upgrade fee when buying a new wireless device on contract. Verizon is currently the only major phone company that does not charge customers a fee when upgrading their devices on a two-year contract. AT&T and Sprint charge customers $36 to upgrade to a new device on contract. T-Mobile charges $18 for the upgrade. The upgrade fee will start on April 22nd.
