Apple Releases Update To Remove Flashback Malware

Yesterday I wrote about how Apple was building a Flashback malware removal tool and today that tool was released as a software update. Apple has released the Java for OS X 2012-003, which is an update to the Java implementation in OS X. The update removes “the most common variants of the Flashback malware.”

The update disables the execution of Java applets. If automatic execution is re-enabled, it will disable it if no applets have been run for “an extended period of time.” The Flashback malware was rumored to have infected over 600,000 Macs at its peak.
