Facebook Acquires Mobile Loyalty Reward Company Tagtile
Facebook has acquired Tagtile, a mobile-based customer loyalty startup. Facebook is interested in the talent and assets behind the company. Facebook said “We’re happy to confirm that TagTile’s founders are joining Facebook, and that Facebook is acquiring substantially all of the company’s assets. We’ve admired the engineering team’s efforts for some time now and we’re excited to have them join Facebook.” Tagtile will continue their service for now. Today Facebook announced a new Offers service for local businesses to use for promotions.
Tagtile gave a presentation at TechCrunch Disrupt and since then the pilot program has been going well. Tagtile gives away free hardware that allows merchants to use their service. The service works through an Android or iOS app. The hardware is a box-shaped device that uses NFC.
Tagtile co-founder Abheek Anand said that the pilot has been going really well. Customers that pilot include small and medium sized businesses along with franchises. The franchises and SMBs use the product to link to their existing reward schemes or create one where there was not one before.
Tagtile has been seems to be doing well in terms of check-in services as well. Tagtile has been used between two and ten times more for interactions than Foursquare.
