European furniture retail store Ikea will soon start selling consumer electronics in their home continent. This includes TVs, wireless sound systems, and Blu-ray CD/DVD players. Ikea is working with TCL Multimedia on this venture. The items will start selling in five European stores in June. “This is a large step for us. We will have an offer that is unique in the market,” stated IKEA living room chief Magnus Bondesson. “We are launching a new concept where you in one place can buy your furniture and your electronics — designed for and matched with each other from start.”
The price for the new items will start at 6,500 Swedish crowns ($960) for a combination bench unit (TV/sound system). Ikea has previously sold appliances developed in partnerships with Whirlpool and Electrolux over the past several years. Currently there are no plans for Ikea to sell consumer electronics in the U.S.
