Digital Chocolate Founder and CEO Trip Hawkins Stepping Back
Digital Chocolate founder and CEO Trip Hawkins is stepping down from the company. President Marc Metis is becoming interim CEO. Digital Chocolate is laying off 180 people across San Mateo, India, Russia, and other locations. Hawkins announced that he was stepping down on the company blog. Hawkins is known for being the founder of Electronic Arts and as the Director of Strategy and Marketing at Apple Computer in 1982. Going forward, Hawkins will have a consulting and advisory role at Digital Chocolate.
“I’ve always had a mission and purpose in my career and I’ve always cared about helping game developers to prosper so that they can make better games for the public. And I’ve worked towards making everyone in the world a gamer – a vision that is indeed on its way to reality. I’ve had the highs and lows and mixed results, but the journey has been extraordinary,” stated Hawkins.
