Sponsored Video: Samsung Releasing Short Film To Promote Premium Features Of Smart TVs

Samsung, the largest handset maker based on shipments from this quarter, is known for creative advertisements promoting their high-end wireless products like the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note. One of my favorite ads from the company was during this past Super Bowl. In the ad, there was a bunch of people waiting in line for hours to buy a competitor’s phone. After seeing someone outside of the line using a Samsung Galaxy Note, the people waiting in line questioned why they were considering a competitor’s phone and started rocking out to “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” by The Darkness. Samsung makes some clever viral videos too. Samsung’s latest viral video campaign is based on a theme titled “Seductive Motion.” The video showcases the high-tech features built into the Samsung Smart TV. Samsung’s latest line of Smart TVs have the ability to interact with hand gestures, voice commands, and apps using technology called Samsung Smart Interaction.

The viral video will be a short film that will showcase the capabilities of the 2012 Samsung flagship Smart TVs. In the video, a supermodel uses her Samsung Motion Control to interact with her Smart TV while passing on the wrong message to some guys looking through her window. I like the cameo from another popular viral video character in this commercial! After watching the video, you will see why Samsung Smart TVs have the motto “Look. Don’t Touch.”

Samsung vice president of Visual Display Business Yoonjung Lee says that “your TV will know why you’re waving—even if others get the wrong idea.”

The Motion Sensor that works with Samsung Smart TVs lets you ditch your remote. It uses face recognition to automatically sign users into their profiles. Hand gesture controls can be used for browsing the web, adjusting the volume, changing the channel, etc.
Samsung Smart TVs can be controlled with your voice using the built-in microphone on the Smart Touch Remote Control. Samsung’s voice commands are accurate and responds to commands like “power on,” “change up,” and “channel down.”

If you have a Samsung Android tablet or smartphone, you can download the Samsung Smart View app. The application is essentially a WiFi remote control for Samsung Smart TVs models that are greater than the LED 7000 and PDP 8000 from 2011 and Smart TVs greater than the LED ES7500, PDP E800, and E7000 models from 2012. The app also works with the Galaxy S2 smartphone, but may not be available on devices with the Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The app supports dual view, Bluetooth PowerOn, TV remote controls, game controller functionality, and the ability to record TV shows.

Content can be accessed through the Samsung Smart Hub. Samsung Smart Hub lets you download and watch movies, access applications, schedule events, set up a picture slideshow, play music, watch YouTube videos, send tweets, and update your Facebook status. Some of the apps that are in the Samsung Smart Hub include Movie Chart, PGA Golf, Puzzle, Cube, Talk Box, Music Video, and Fish Bowl.

Another cool feature built into the Samsung Smart Hub is Social TV. Social TV contains a news feed stream of your favorite social media services like Twitter, Facebook, and Google Talk on the sidebar of your TV screen. This way you can multi-task by watching TV and engaging with your friends online at the same time. If you receive a Twitter @ mention, incoming IMs from Google Talk, or a wall post on your Facebook, then a notification bubble will appear over the icon for that specific social media service.

In 2013, Samsung plans to introduce the world’s first “Evolution Kit.” The kit lets you renew your TV every year by upgrading the central processing unit (CPU), graphics-processing unit (GPU), and memory. The Evolution Kit will help you set up 1:1 and multi video calls. The Evolution Kit comes with support for 2D and 3D game graphics.

The viral video “Seductive Motion” was put together by advertising agency BETC London. BETC London founding executive creative director Neil Dawson said “the Samsung Smart TV is just that – smart. Voice and motion activated. We filmed this with RSA in a big ‘Blake Edwards’ style caper film. We cast a motley collection of fellas in Buenos Aires and flew in a top model from LA to be our fantasy woman. I love my job.” The viral video will be live this week on Samsung’s Smart TV YouTube channel and Facebook page.
