Google Expanding Offices In SoCal’s Venice Beach

Venice Beach is a beachfront district on the west-side of Los Angeles, known for the canals, beaches, and 2.5 mile pedestrian-only promenade. The population of Venice Beach includes many bodybuilders, homeless people, tourists, and medical marijuana dispensaries. Now Venice Beach is going to see a lot more tech geeks and hipsters because Google is expanding there. Google placed some of their sales and technology employees at a 100,000 square foot office back in November and now they are going to be leasing more space in the same building that has a Gold’s Gym. The bodybuilders are worried that Google will kick out Gold’s Gym and the buff people that spend a lot of time there. In July 2014, Google will be renting the property directly across from their offices in Venice Beach, but they have assured Gold’s and L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendah that they want the gym to stay and they are trying to extend the gym’s lease. Former bodybuilder and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a major advocate of Venice Beach where he got his start. [New York Times]
