Blogging platform company Tumblr has millions of users and receives billions of page views per month. Tumblr builds their own monetization strategies internally by selling themes, stickers, and other virtual goods. This past week, Tumblr announced a new feature that enables users to pin their posts to the top of their followers’ dashboards for a period of 24 hours.

Earlier this year, Tumblr rolled out other advertising options like Highlighted Posts ($2), Radar (display unit for companies to advertise their accounts), and a service that lets brands run display ads at the top of Spotlight pages.

Pinned Posts are completely self-serve. When a user wants their post to get more exposure, they simply check a box beneath a post. Payments can be made via PayPal or credit card.

What Tumblr currently lacks is an analytics dashboard so users are unable to see how much additional traffic they are getting from Pinned Posts and Highlighted posts.
