Mozilla’s Boot To Gecko Project Leads To Firefox OS
Mozilla has been working on the Boot To Gecko project for a bit under a year, which aims to build a mobile operating system based on open web standards like HTML5. The outcome of the project is that Mozilla will be releasing a commercial product in a few months called Firefox OS. Mozilla’s first partner on Firefox OS is Telefonica.
Now other partners that will be joining include Sprint, Deutsche Telekom, Smart, Telecom Italia, and Telenor. Chinese hardware manufacturers ZTE and TCL have committed to making the first Firefox OS handsets.
The specifications about the devices that the Firefox OS will be running on are unknown, but we do know that the operating system will be optimized for entry-level smartphones powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry.
