Apple Leaves Environment EPEAT Program
Apple has let the Green Electronics Council know that they are leaving the Electronic Product Environment Assessment Tool program including 39 green certified desktops, notebooks, and monitors. Apple will no longer submit new products for EPEAT environmental ratings.
“They said their design direction was no longer consistent with the EPEAT requirements,” stated Green Electronics Council CEO Robert Frisbee. “If the battery is glued to the case it means you can’t recycle the case and you can’t recycle the battery.”
Apple said that they are the only company in their industry whose entire product line exceeds the strict energy guidelines for the ENERGY STAR specification.
Dell has 171 EPEAT-certified products, HP has 221, and Samsung has 309. Apple does not have any. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry. You can follow me at @amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
