Starbucks Launches Mobile Payment Android App In Canada and UK
Starbucks has announced a newly designed Android app that allows users in Canada and the U.K. to pay for drinks from their phones. The Android users will be able to show the cashiers a barcode on their phone. Up until now, Starbucks made this feature available for U.S. Android users.
iPhone users have been able to make wireless purchases in Canada and the U.K. since this past January. This past April, Starbucks claimed to have 42 million transactions from mobile devices in their U.S. stores.
Today Starbucks Chief Digital Officer Adam Brotman said that the number is closer to 55 million. You will still need to add a balance to your mobile devices using a credit card, but most buyers don’t mind since they get reward points for every purchase.
“People are waiting in line and generally on their phones anyways,” said Brotman. The app works at 14,000 Starbucks locations. The Android app has PIN code protection, account management, and a store locator. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry. You can follow me at @amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
