New Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer Is Pregnant

Marissa Mayer, the former Google executive, Wal-Mart board member, and current Yahoo! CEO, is pregnant. Her baby boy is due on October 7. “He’s super-active,” said Mayer in an interview with Fortune. “He moves around a lot.  My doctor says that he takes after his parents.” Mayer’s husband is Zachary Bogue, a lawyer that focuses on “big-data startups.” Bogue now runs an investment fund called Data Collective. She took her pregnancy into consideration when Jim Citrin, the Spencer Stuart recruiter hired by the Yahoo! board contacted her.

“I got the call on Monday, June 18,” said Mayer. She said that she was “very moved and flattered.” Yahoo! receives over 600 million visitors and the potential to make their products “much more innovative and delightful” intrigued her. Mayer insisted that she was very happy at Google and was coming into her own.

Mayer disclosed to the Yahoo! board that she was pregnant in late June at a meeting with Michael Wolf, a member of Yahoo!’s four-person CEO search committee.  None of the Yahoo! directors revealed any concerns about it.  “They showed their evolved thinking,” said Mayer.

Mayer expects her maternity leave to be speedy.  “I like to stay in the rhythm of things,” said Mayer. “My maternity leave will be a few weeks long and I’ll work throughout it.”

One of the concessions that the Yahoo! board made for their CEO was to have the September board meeting in Sunnyvale, California rather than New York.
