ABC News producer Eric Strauss has married Bridget Kelly in New York City on July 7th.  The two met when Strauss did a story on Kelly in 2004.  Kelly, a first grade teacher at the time, told ABC’s “Primetime” that she was kidnapped by a stranger when she was 26 years old on June 21, 2002.  Kelly was kidnapped, robbed, and was taken to a secluded field in Killeen, Texas.  She was then raped and shot repeatedly.

Charlie Gibson of ABC reported on the story at the time and Strauss was assigned to interview people and film Kelly at her home and classroom in Texas.  After Kelly left Texas years later to earn a Master’s degree in literacy education at New York University.  Kelly and Strauss met as friends for lunch, but they became really close.  Strauss proposed last August.

“You revealed yourself to be a beautiful warrior the second I met you,” said Strauss when giving a speech to Kelly at their wedding as quoted by The New York Daily News. “With your regal elegance, insightfulness and compassion, you inspire me to be better.”

“I knew from our first time spent together that you were smart and funny and caring…You listen,” said Kelly. “You accept me for who I am and make me feel safe and happy-because I have someone great to share good times, to survive hard times and to keep me company all the time.”
