General Motors Announces WiFi Direct To Alert Drivers About Pedestrians

General Motors has announced a new service called Wi-Fi Direct, which is a service that will alert drivers about pedestrians being near by their cars in an effort to curb life-threatening situations.

Wi-Fi Direct is a new technology that will be implemented into new smartphones, which will allow the phones to communicate with one another directly without the need of a hot spot or cellphone tower.  It takes just one second for two devices to connect while conventional systems take 7-8 seconds.

The technology works up to 600 feet.  GM will create specific apps for people that are most at risk of being run over like bike messengers or construction workers.
