UC Davis Pepper Spraying Cop John Pike Gets Laid Off

On November 18, several students participated in an Occupy Wall Street protest on the campus of University of California-Davis peacefully.  This is when officer John Pike told them to leave.  After refusing the leave, the students were casually pepper-sprayed.  This photo became a meme known as the “Casually Pepper Spray Everything Cop.”

“Consistent with privacy guidelines established in state law and university policy, I can confirm that John Pike’s employment with the university ended on July 31, 2012,” stated UC Davis spokesman Barry Shiller in an interview with the Sacramento Bee.  Pike was on paid leave since the incident occurred.  The exact reason for why Pike was laid off is not known.
