EA Files Lawsuit Against Zynga
Electronics Arts has filed a lawsuit against Zynga today. Have you ever noticed how The Sims looks and feels just like The Ville? EA is not taking too kindly too that kind of thing anymore. “The copying was so comprehensive that the two games are, to an uninitiated observer, largely indistinguishable,” stated Maxis Manager Lucy Bradshaw. Maxis is the EA subsidiary that designs and launches all of The Sims games as quoted by Mashable. “Zynga’s design choices, animations, visual arrangements and character motions and actions have been directly lifted from The Sims Social … scores of media and bloggers have commented on the blatant mimicry.”
Zynga pointed out that EA’s SimCity Social has an uncanny resemblance to Zynga’s CityVille game. Zynga has been notorious for copying a lot of their social gaming ideas. For example FarmVille appears to be a copy of a game called Farm Town. Mafia Wars looks very similar to Mob Wars. And Ruby Blast looks just like Bejeweled.
This reminds me of the Apple vs. Samsung trials. Apple is accusing Samsung of violating their designs and patents. In this case, it appears the two companies will be going tit-for-tat on who stole each other’s game designs. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry.
