Megaupload Founder Kim Dotcom Said New Zealand Police Beat Him
When Megaupload was raided and founder Kim “Dotcom” Schmitz was arrested, he was beaten. Schmitz said that he ran to his safe room after hearing loud banging at the front door of his home. When the police entered, they supposedly beat Dotcom. Dotcom said “And then they were all over me. I had a punch to the face, boots kicking me down to the floor.”
“I was screaming and I was in pain … I told them there was no need for punching me or hurting me and please stop,” he added.
The raid was requested by the U.S. FBI. Dotcom’s computers, hard drives, automobiles, and art work was confiscated after the raid. Now a New Zealand judge is ruling that the raid was illegal.
Dotcom made $175 million from the popularity of Megaupload, which was known for hosting copyrighted material. Kim Dotcom’s lawyers said that Megaupload was simply a file storage service despite proof that Megaupload employees were sharing copyrighted material on the website.
