Amazon Announces New “Glacier” Storage Service At $0.01 Per GB Per Month

Amazon Web Services Logo has announced a new service known as Amazon Glacier, which is a low-cost storage and data archiving service.  “With Amazon Glacier, customers can reliably store large or small amounts of data for as little as $0.01 per gigabyte per month, a significant savings compared to on-premises solutions,” said Amazon on their website.

Glacier is especially ideal for data that needs to be archived, but is not frequently accessed.  Some examples of this kind of data include financial documents and healthcare records.  Amazon said that most companies overpay for data archiving because they have to guess how much capacity they need.  This amount is often overestimated.
