Square Competitor Payleven Expands To U.K., Brazil, The Netherlands, and Poland
Payleven is a mobile payments startup company that is considered a “Square clone.” Payleven was spun out of Rocket Internet, which is an incubator brother run by the Samwer brothers. The Samwer brothers are notorious for taking successful business ideas from U.S. Internet companies and creating overseas versions of them.
Regardless, Paylevel has expanded to the United Kingdom, Brazil, The Netherlands, and Poland. The company will be launching in other countries very soon. Payleven recently raised a new round of funding that was in the “double-digit million Euro” range according to TheNextWeb. The investors in this round include New Enterprise Associates, Holtzbrinck Ventures, and Ru-net. Payleven employs around 70 people in Germany, the U.K., and other international markets.
Payleven works with MasterCard and other local bank cards in the Netherlands and Germany. This article was written by Amit Chowdhry. You can follow me at @amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
