You may remember back in June 2012 that we wrote about Apple shutting down Ping.  Now it is official.  Apple is shutting down Ping as a notice revealed in the iTunes 10.7 update.  At the AllThingD conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that he was not sure if they would shut down Ping since “some customers love it, but there’s not a huge number that do.”

“We tried Ping and the customer voted,” said Cook at the conference.  “And we said, this isn’t something I want to put a lot of energy into.”  The new version of iTunes has a lot more integration with Facebook and Twitter.
