Motorola Mobility Acquires Viewdle

Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility has acquired Viewdle, an image recognition company.  This is what a Motorola spokesperson said about the acquisition:  “Motorola Mobility today announced that it has acquired Viewdle, a leading imaging & gesture recognition company. Motorola and Viewdle have an existing commercial agreement and have been collaborating for some time. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.”

Google has been in talks with Viewdle since 2008 and with Motorola in 2011.  The financial details are unknown, but according to TechCrunch, the price was between $30 and $45 million.  Viewdle started in the Ukraine in 2006 and has headquarters in Silicon Valley.  Viewdle raised $12.5 million in VC funding since they launched.  Their investors include Best Buy Capital, BlackBerry Partners Fund, KCP Capital, Qualcomm, and Anthem Venture Partners.
