OPSWAT’s Metascan Online Is A Website For Scanning Files For Viruses

OPSWAT has recently launched a service called Metascan Online.  Metascan Online is a service that is similar to Virustotal.com, a company that was recently acquired by Google.  Metascan Online scans files using over 30 antivirus engines.  OPSWAT CEO Benny Czarny recently gave a presentation about a year ago at AVAR (Association of Antivirus Asia Researchers) conference about what the advantages and challenges of multi-scanning are.  A video of his presentation is available at this website.

Metascan Online is essentially a demo of OPSWAT’s Metascan technology.  I chatted with Elisse Lockhart, a Partner Marketing Manager for OPSWAT about Metascan Online.  She told me that “no anti-virus engine is perfect all the time.”  She also told me that companies can host Metascan products on their servers.

Metascan sells this service in packages of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 bundle engines based on how much security a company wants.  The Metascan Online product started around one year ago.  Opswat’s customers include Cisco, Juniper, and Citrix.  Another OPSWAT product is the OESIS framework for detecting applications that are installed on third party computers.

When someone is trying to connect remotely, OESIS checks to make sure that an anti-virus is installed.  OPSWAT supports over 2,000 applications and has a free certification program, through which they work directly with application vendors to ensure support through the framework.
