Google To Launch An AdWords Business Credit Card In The U.K. and U.S.
Late last month, Amazon.com launched a short-term loan program for merchants. Now Google is getting into the financing solutions game by launching a service called AdWords Business Credit in the United Kingdom, which offers credit to companies that want to boost their marketing with Google AdWords.
According to Google’s VP Treasurer Brent Callinicos, 74% of participants in the U.S. pilot now use AdWords Business Credit as their “primary form of AdWords payment.” Google is launching following the U.K. program with a similar program in the United States. The United Kingdom launch is through a partnership with Barclay and the U.S. launch is with Comenity Capital Bank. Google said that AdWords Business Credit is only for AdWords and no other purchases are allowed.
In their Q2 earnings, Google reported revenues were $10.96 billion, which is a 21% increase over the year before. U.K. revenues were $1.18 billion (11% of Google’s revenues in Q2). Interest rates in the United Kingdom will be variable at 11.9% APR Representative and in the U.S., it will be 8.99%. None of the cards will have annual fees.
