Twitter Blocks A Neo-Nazi Group
Twitter banned a neo-Nazi account in Germany based on a request of the local law enforcement. This is the first time that Twitter banned an account. The company had the ability to block accounts in single countries since this past January, but did not utilize the opportunity until this week.
Twitter banned the account @hannoverticker, which belonged to a neo-Nazi group in Germany called Besseres Hannover. Besseres Hannover was banned by law enforcement as of late September. Local authorities asked Twitter to block the account of the group to lock-down the online organization of the group.
“It is disbanded, its assets are seized and all its accounts in social networks have to be closed immediately,” said a letter that was sent to Twitter. The account is still accessible from outside Germany, but this is the last tweet that was sent out:
