Samsung Display Terminating LCD Panel Deal With Apple
Samsung Display said today that they are terminating their contract with Apple regarding liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. This is not shocking because Apple and Samsung have filed multiple patent lawsuits against each other across many countries. Samsung believes that they are no longer make a great amount of cash from Apple because they have a stiff supply-chain management structure.
“We are unable to supply our flat-screens to Apple with huge price discounts. Samsung has already cut our portion of shipments to Apple and next year we will stop shipping displays,” stated a senior Samsung source with Korea Times today.
In the first 6 months of this year, Samsung Display shipped over 15 million LCDs for Apple. LG Display shipped 12.5 million and Sharp shipped 2.8 million for Apple according to market research company DisplaySearch. For the third quarter, Samsung shipped under 3 million to Apple.
