Boxee TV Hitting Walmart Shelves Tomorrow

The Boxee TV will start selling on Walmart shelves starting tomorrow.  The Boxee TV lets you stream content from Netflix or YouTube.  Walmart will put the device in 3,000 of their U.S. locations starting tomorrow.  The Boxee TV sells at a price of $98 just in time for the holiday season.

The Boxee TV set-top box comes with a remote control and can access free HD broadcast channels along with streaming Internet content.  The Boxee TV has dual tuners and lets you record one program when watching another live.  The set top box does not have an internal storage device.

Programs that are recorded using the DVR feature are put in the cloud.  People that buy the Boxee device will get unlimited storage space on the cloud and can watch the recordings on a laptop, tablet, or TV.  The Boxee TV has a $14.99 monthly charge for the DVR service.

“It’s going to be a big launch for us,” stated Boxee CEO Avner Ronen. “There’s a big difference between having your product being carried by retailers, where it sits on the shelf, and getting real marketing behind it.”
