George Lucas To Give Away A Lot Of His Wealth To Education

Lucasfilm Ltd. sold to Disney for $4.05 billion a couple of days ago.  Lucasfilm owner George Lucas announced that he will give away a lot of the proceeds from the acquisition to education causes.

“George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors,” stated a Lucasfilm representative in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.  George Lucas is the chairman of Edutopia, which is part of the George Lucas Educational Foundation.

Mr. Lucas used his current foundation to donate $175 million to the University of Southern California in 2006.  He also donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer, and The Film Foundation.

“For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company. As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy,” stated Mr. Lucas.
