Dropbox Passes 100 Million Users, Storing 1 Billion New Files Per Day

Online storage company Dropbox has passed 100 million users.  Dropbox has quadrupled their user base in the last year. Dropbox faces competition from larger companies like Google, Apple, Amazon.com, and Microsoft.  Earlier we wrote about how Steve Jobs called up Drew Houston to acquire Dropbox, but he turned down his offer.

Nokia Acquires 3D Street Level Earthmine, Taking On Google Street View

Nokia has acquired a 3D street level imagery company called Earthmine.  Earthmine is a company that takes 3D images of cities and has been providing 3D map solutions since 2006.  Nokia will be integrating Earthmine’s technology into their Here maps system to compete directly against the Google Street View service.  Nokia is hosting an event today that highlights how they will use Earthmine technology in the future.

Akamai Acquiring IP Platform Company Verivue

Akamai Technologies Inc. has announced that they have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Verivue in a cash transaction.  Verivue will complement Akamai’s Aura Network Solutions division.  Verivue will help Akamai speed up their time to market to provide a licensed content delivery network solution for network operators.

Motor Trend Names Tesla Model S Car Of The Year

Motor Trend magazine has named the Tesla Model S the 2013 Car of the Year. This is the first electric car to receive the award and the first winner by a unanimous decision. Motor Trend editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie said that the Model S is “one of the quickest four-door sedans ever built.” Angus also said that the car “drives like a sports car.” The vehicle is also more fuel-efficient than a Toyota Prius.
