Google Hires NHTSA Deputy Director Ron Medford
Google has hired Ron Medford, the deputy director of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Mr. Redford will work on Google’s self-driving cars. Mr. Medford will join Google in January and will be the director of safety for driverless vehicles. Mr. Redford, 64, worked over 40 years in the public sector and joined the NHTSA in 2003. He became acting deputy administrator in 2009 and the Senate confirmed his position one year later.
He helped NHTSA Administrator David Strickland enhance safety-minded policy and helped finalize the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards this past August. “He has been an indispensable part of our efforts to make cars safer, eliminate accidents caused by drunk and distracted driving, and improve fuel economy for drivers across the country,” stated Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.@amitchowdhry or on Google+ at +AmitChowdhry
