HTC Denies That They Are Paying $6 Per Phone Sold To Apple
On November 11, Apple and HTC reached a patent settlement. The two companies said that they were satisfied with the outcome. There has been some speculation that HTC will be paying Apple $6-$8 per Android phone sold as part of the settlement. HTC CEO Peter Chou said that those numbers are “outrageous” and not true.
The two companies did not disclose the details of their licensing agreement, but HTC said that they were not changing their fourth-quarter guidance.
“I think that these estimates are baseless and very, very wrong. It is a outrageous number, but I’m not going to comment anything on a specific number. I believe we have a very, very happy settlement and a good ending,” stated Mr. Chou at a KDDI Corporation product launch in Tokyo.
Apple first sued HTC in May 2010. The iPod maker followed that up with lawsuits against Samsung and Motorola.
