Jeannette Wing Leaving Carnegie Mellon To Become Head Of Microsoft Research International

Jeannette Wing is stepping down as the head of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon to become the head of Microsoft Research International.

She will be responsible for the research laboratories in Bangalore, Cambridge, and Beijing.

Ms. Wing is  a leader in formal methods, security, and privacy.

She joined CMU in 1985 and had several academic leadership positions before becoming the head of the Computer Science Department in 2004.

Between 2007 and 2010, she served as the Assistant Director of the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate at the National Science Foundation.

Microsoft Chief Research Officer Rick Rashid said that Ms. Wing is a “leading light in the computer science research community.”
