Instagram Blocks Twitter Card Integration

Today Instagram disabled the ability for Twitter to display Instagram photos on their website and applications correctly.  Twitter and Instagram’s rivalry has been intense ever since Facebook acquired Instagram.  Twitter and Facebook were in a bidding war for the Instagram at one point.  Twitter wrote on a status update that Instagram disabled its integration with Twitter cards.  Twitter cards are used to display images and content within Twitter messages.

“Users are experiencing issues with viewing Instagram photos on Twitter,” said Twitter in the post. “This is due to Instagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience.”

Instagram photos are appearing incorrectly on Twitter now.  The photos are displaying cropped or off-center.  Back in July Twitter blocked Instagram from finding their friends on the mobile application.  Last month, we also wrote about how Twitter will be competing with Instagram by adding photo filters to their own mobile application.  I’m sure Facebook and Instagram were not happy with that news, which is why they likely started blocking Twitter integration.
