Google Apps Is No Longer Free For Businesses

Google Apps for Businesses are no longer free.  The announcement was made on the Google Enterprise blog by Clay Bavor, the Google Director of Product Management for Google Apps.  He said that businesses were quickly outgrowing the free version of Google Apps and asked to be moved to paid premium accounts.  Google will now only offer a subscription version.

“Individuals wishing to use Google’s web apps like Gmail and Google Drive should create a free personal Google Account, which provides a seamless experience across all of our web services on any device,” stated Bavor.

Google is keeping Google Apps free for educational institutions.  Users that have already signed up for the free version of Google Apps for the enterprise will not be forced to pay up unless they want to be upgraded.  Users will not be able to create a new account though.  The price for Google Apps is $50 per user per year.
