Google Hires Dr. Arun Majumdar From Department Of Energy

Google has hired Dr. Arun Majumdar to head up the energy initiatives at the company.  He will also work on the company’s large energy efforts.  Dr. Majumdar was the Acting Undersecretary of Energy at the Department of Energy.  Google is known for consuming a lot of energy at their data warehouses.  Dr. Majumdar could help the company find ways to save energy, thus finding financial savings in the process.

In a statement about the hiring of Dr. Majumdar, Google wrote “one of the world’s biggest challenges is bringing reliable, sustainable and affordable energy to everyone. We need a new energy blueprint for the future.”

Before joining the Energy Department, Dr. Majumdar was the Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Environment at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.  He was also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California-Berkeley.
