RIM Signs Patent License Agreement With Nokia
Nokia Corporation and Research In Motion have signed a patent license agreement with each other. This settles all of the legal actions between both of the companies. This agreement settles all of the existing patent litigation between both companies. The two companies will be withdrawing from pending actions in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. The financial structure of the agreement includes a one-time payment and on-going payments from RIM to Nokia.
“We are very pleased to have resolved our patent licensing issues with RIM and reached this new agreement, while maintaining Nokia’s ability to protect our unique product differentiation,” stated Nokia CIO Paul Melin. “This agreement demonstrates Nokia’s industry leading patent portfolio and enables us to focus on further licensing opportunities in the mobile communications market.”
