Ford Sold Around 2.2 Million Cars In 2012

Ford Motor Company has sold around 2.2 million cars in 2012 according to a statement from the company this weekend.  Even though the company’s sales are going great, the company is still losing market share.  This year is the second year in a row that Ford’s sales passed two million, but their sales projection of 2.2 million is still short of the auto industry’s gains this year.  Analysts are expecting the industry as a whole to be higher than 13% for 2012.

PBS Documentary About Silicon Valley Airing On February 19th

Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, was the executive producer of a recently aired reality show called “Silicon Valley.”  Tech entrepreneurs and investors loathed that show and even compared it to the Jersey Shore.  PBS decided to focus on the actual innovation coming from the tech hub of the U.S. rather than the party lifestyle that some of the entrepreneurs have there.  PBS’ documentary on Silicon Valley will be called “American Experience” and it is airing on February 19th.  Check out the trailer below:

Cheezburger Raises $5 Million

Cheezburger has raised $5 million in funding according to an SEC filing.  Cheezburger is known as the parent company for several humorous content channels like I Can Has Cheezburger, Fail Blog, and Memebase.  Investors in this round include Foundry Group, Madrona Venture Group, Avalon Ventures, and SoftBank Capital.  Cheezburger was launched by Ben Huh in 2007.  The company has over 50 websites in their network.  The company makes money from advertising, book publishing, and merchandising.  The company raised $30 million in funding last year.  Cheezburger even has a reality show where the camera interviews employees and follows the day-to-day at the company called “LOLwork.”  A Cheezburger spokesperson said that the new round of funding will go towards building a social humor platform.

Michigan Governor Signs Law That Makes It Illegal For Schools and Employees To Ask For Social Media Logins

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has signed a law on Friday that prohibits employers from asking for the Facebook and Twitter logins from their workers.  House Bill No. 5523 is “An act to prohibit employers and educational institutions from requiring certain individuals to grant access to, allow observation of, or disclose information that allows access to or observation of personal internet accounts; to prohibit employers and educational institutions from taking certain actions for failure to allow access to, observation of, or disclosure of information that allows access to personal internet accounts; and to provide sanctions and remedies.”

Foursquare Hits 3 Billion Check-Ins, Will Start Using Real Names On January 28

Mobile check-in app company Foursquare has hit 3 billion check-ins and they have added 15 million new users in 2012.  The company added reviews to their service back in October to compete against services like Yelp.  Recently Foursquare updated their privacy policy with some changes that will be reflected starting on January 28th.  The company will be using the full names of their users and businesses will have the ability to access longer data logs for individuals.
