AT&T Sold Around 10 Million Smartphones In Q4

AT&T has announced that they have hit a smartphone sales record.  The company sold around 10 million smartphones in Q4 2012.  This beats a record of 9.4 million one year earlier.  AT&T said that their success is due to the “best quarterly sales of Android and Apple smartphones.”

The iPhone 5 really helped drive the sales when it went on sale at the end of September.  AT&T said that the iPhone 5 surpassed sales of the iPhone 4S as the fastest selling Apple device ever.  For example, Apple sold over 2 million devices in 24 hours.

AT&T’s customers bought around 110,000 smartphones per day.  AT&T activated 4.7 million iPhones during the three month period in Q3.  This is around 77% of their 6.1 million total smartphone activations.  AT&T’s full fourth quarter financial report is due on January 24th.
