Intel to Stop Making Desktop Motherboards

Intel has announced that in the next three years, they will shut down production of their desktop motherboards.  Fortunately Intel will continue supplying chipsets for use by third party motherboard manufacturers like ASUS, Gigabyte, and ASRock.  However Intel will not be making the motherboards themselves.  The last output from Intel will be motherboards that will accomodate Haswell architecture chips.  Haswell is the successor to Ivy Bridge processors.  Intel will focus on creating form factor reference designs used internally for testing and will end up being used as the base for third-party products.  [Source: Anandtech]
