BitTorrent Is Building A File Syncing Application Called Sync
In the blog post, BitTorrent also announced the launch of the new BitTorrent Labs website. Sync will have direct synchronization between machines without dealing with cloud caching. The file transfers will be protected with 256 bit AES encryption. Sync will have native apps for the Mac operating system, Linux, and Windows. People that are interested can sign up for the Sync Alpha test online.
BitTorrent Sync will compete against big companies like Google, Amazon, Dropbox, and Sugarsync. BitTorrent’s biggest advantage is their app distribution reach. There are over 170 million active BitTorrent and uTorrent users. If they bundle Sync with their software in the future, they will be able to effectively compete against the big players.
