A Movie About John McAfee Is Being Written
John McAfee, the founder of McAfee anti-virus software, became wanted for murder in November, hid out in Guatemala, got arrested, and then fled to Miami. Warner Brothers bought the rights to the Wired e-book called “John McAfee’s Last Stand.”
McAfee was questioned for the murder of his neighbor Gregory Faull back in November. Faull was a Florida builder that was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. McAfee said that local police in Belize were trying to kill him after he refused to pay $2 million in bribes. Shortly after McAfee emerged in Guatemala, he was deported to the U.S. when authorities found out that he was in the country illegally.
Belize has an extradition treaty with the United States, but McAfee was not charged with any crimes. Belize authorities denied impropriety and they maintain that McAfee is not a suspect in the murder. McAfee was initially on the run with his 20-year-old girlfriend Samantha Vanegas. Vanegas did not travel all the way to Guatemala with him.
“I’m happy to be going home. I’ve been running through jungles and rivers and oceans and I think I need to rest for a while. And I’ve been in jail for seven days,” said McAfee before arriving in Miami.
John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are expected to write and direct the film. The two are known for the movies I Love You Phillip Morris, Bad Santa, and Crazy, Stupid, Love. Rumor has it that McAfee is now living in Portland, Oregon and is working with Chad Essley on a novel about his life.
