Amazon.com Acquires Text-To-Speech Software Company IVONA

Amazon.com has acquired text-to-speech software company IVONA Software.  IVONA is known for developing the text-to-speech capabilities of the Amaozn.com Kindle Fire tablet lineup.  IVONA also powers the Kindle Fire’s Voice Guide and Explore By Touch features.

IVONA does not work just with the Kindle Fire tablet — they also work with a ton of other companies around the world.  IVONA has 44 different voices in 17 languages and more are in development.

IVONA CEO and co-founder Lukasz Osowski said that they  “are all thrilled that Amazon is supporting our growth so that we can continue to innovate and deliver exceptional voice and language support for our customers.”  The company will continue to operate independently from Amazon as a subsidiary.
