Backstage Acquiring Sonicbids For Around $15 Million
Backstage is a job board website for actors to seek casting calls. The company has acquired Sonicbids. Sonicbids is a website that connects bands to festivals and clubs. The deal is estimated to be worth around $15 million and is being financed by Guggenheim Partners. Guggenheim owns media properties like Dick Clark Productions, Prometheus Global Media, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Backstage CEO John Amato and Sonicbids founder Panos Panay said that the combined company will have 600,000 registered users and 60,000 of them are paying. Backstage has been around since the 1960’s to help actors find audition notices and casting calls.
“If you have a desk job, there are a lot of places you can go to find a job online,” stated. Amato. “If you are a creative, there aren’t a lot of those places.”
Sonicbids was founded in 2001 and lets users build online press kits to apply for shows with promoters. Sonicbids competes with companies like MySpace and ReverbNation.
Based in Boston, Sonicbids will operate as a standalone company. Backstage has offices in New York and Los Angeles.
