Corning’s Gorilla Glass Generated Over $1 Billion In 2012

Corning recently announced their quarterly results yesterday and they hit a record quarter.  The company saw a 14% year-over-year increase in sales.  The company’s Q4 2012 hit around $2.14 billion.  Corning’s Gorilla Glass unit hit a total of about $1 billion for the year.  You may know Gorilla Glass as the material that is used on many Android smartphones and the Apple iPhone and iPad.

Corning’s “Special Material” sales went up 68% thanks to the strength of Gorilla Glass sales.  It was up 10% from the previous quarter too.  There are now over 1 billion consumer and IT devices that use Gorilla Glass as it’s key component.  Earlier this month, we wrote about how Corning Gorilla Glass will be 3 times stronger than it’s predecessor.

Based in Corning, New York, Corning Inc. is also very well known for their consumer line of CorningWare tableware products and Pyrex cookware.  Corning’s two major joint ventures are called Dow Corning and Samsung Corning Precision Glass.
