MusiXmatch Raises $3.7 Million, Android App Hits 10 Million Downloads

MusiXmatch is a song lyrics database company that has desktop and mobile apps.  The company has raised $3.7 million in funding, thus bringing their total raised to $8.1 million since they started in 2010.  The new round of funding was from existing investors Micheli Associati and Paolo Barberis.  The company plans to use the funding to expand their team, further develop products, and open new offices in New York and Asia.

The MusiXmatch app lets users search and view lyrics matched to the music that they are listening to. MusiXmatch’s app on iOS, Android, Mac, Windows 8, Windows Phone 7, and Spotify has surpassed the million user mark and around 1 million downloads are being added per month. The highest number of users are on Google Android.

MusiXmatch is hitting around 40 million sessions per month and last December, they hit a mobile record of around 400 million screen views. The majority of users at 40% are from the U.S. Asia, South Korea, and Japan are at 30%. The European company will be setting up a base in the U.S. and Asia. MusiXmatch said that the number two app on Spotify hit over 1.5 million hours of lyrics-synced music streamed in December.

“We want musiXmatch to be like MTV was in the past for music on TV. We’re working on pushing musiXmatch directly on TV. You will be able to mirror your mobile screen to your TV and enjoy the full experience of your music combined with syncronized lyrics, from your phone to your TV,” stated MusiXmatch founder and CEO Max Ciociola.
