Ziff Davis Acquires IGN From News Corporation

IGN is an online entertainment company that focuses on video games, films, music, and other media content.  Since IGN’s parent company News Corporation is reorganizing their business, they sold the company to Ziff Davis‘ parent company j2 Global.

Ziff Davis is best known as being the publisher of Electronic Gaming Monthly, the Official PlayStation Magazine, Computer Gaming World, and Xbox Nation.  Ziff Davis also runs the websites ComputerShopper.com, PCMag.com, Geek.com, and ExtremeTech.com.  IGN runs websites IGN.com, 1UP.com, GameSpy.com, AskMen.com, and UGO.com.  The combined companies will be an entertainment powerhouse.

“Ziff Davis shares similar roots with IGN, evolving from a traditional print business into a successful digital business. As the games media space continues to evolve, and audiences continue to seek new ways to consume content, we’re excited to be working with a partner focused on delivering strong editorial content across all platforms. IGN’s audience of millions of passionate fans – including the largest audience of gamers online – coupled with Ziff Davis’ excellent monetization track record, will form the foundation for a very powerful media brand,” stated IGN Publisher and EVP of Content Peer Schneider.
