Nintendo Cuts Wii U Forecast
Nintendo has cut the forecasts for the Wii U console after sales failed to meet their expectations. According to consumer research company NPD, the Wii U sold “well under” 100,000 consoles. Nintendo said that they previously sold 460,000 systems in December, which means that demand for the product is dropping at a rapid pace.
NPD said that there was a 38% decrease on sales for the original Wii at the same point in its life. Gamasutra is estimating that the sales are between 45,000 and 59,000 consoles. Nintendo hopes that the Wii U should see an increase in sales when new Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda games are released for the console. Microsoft said that they sold around 281,000 Xbox 360 consoles last month.
