AirWatch Raises $200 Million In Series A

AirWatch is an enterprise startup company that focuses on mobile device management.  The company has raised $200 million in Series A funding led by Insight Venture Partners.  This is the largest investment in an enterprise company in 2013 according to BusinessInsider.  The company helps manage the issue of employees using their own smartphones, tablets, and laptops on their company networks.

Companies that allow employees to bring in their own devices to work need a way to identify the devices and put corporate software on them to make sure that they are secure.  AirWatch founders John Marshall and Alan Dabbiere launched the company in 2003 and now they have over 6,000 customers.

This is the first time that AirWatch raised funding from a venture capital firm.  Dabbiere previously started another enterprise software company called Manhattan Associates and he took that company public in 1998.  The earnings from that company helped him bootstrap AirWatch.
