Stanford Graduate Frank Brown Is Suing Snapchat Co-Founders

Frank Brown is a South Carolina based man that attended Stanford University with Snapchat co-founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy.  Brown claims that he came up with the idea for Snapchat and approached Spiegel with the idea.  He claimed that he had a “million dollar ideas” on his hands.  Now Brown is suing Snapchat.

Snapchat is an app that allows users to send photos to other people and it deletes in 10 seconds.  Snapchat has raised $13.5 million in funding.  Brown claims that he and Spiegel entered a verbal agreement to work on Snapchat together.  They started looking for a coder, which is when Murphy got pulled in.  Brown was allegedly the chief marketing officer, Murphy was the CTO, and Spiegel was the CEO.

The three of them started working on Snapchat according to the lawsuit.  Brown said that the app was called Picaboo at the time.  The Picaboo app even got some press from ShinyShiny in 2011.  Brown worked on building a social media presence for the idea when he served as the CMO.  Brown claims that he designed the ghost logo that Snapchat still uses and he helped with the user interface.  In the summer of 2011, they worked at Spiegel’s dad’s home in Los Angeles.

The lawsuit alleges that around the middle of August 2011, the trio got into a heated conversation about what the future of Picaboo was.  Spiegel and Murphy started to lock Brown out from accessing the application.  They changed the passwords on various Picaboo accounts and refused to return his calls too.
