Google Is Working On An Amazon Prime Competitor Called Google Shopping Express
Google is working on building a competitor to Amazon Prime called “Google Shopping Express.” Amazon Prime is a service in the United States that lets you receive goods within two days with free shipping. Amazon Prime costs $79 per year for consumers and $39 per year for students. According to sources with TechCrunch, Google Shopping Express will be $10 or $15 cheaper than Amazon Prime.
The project is believed to be run by Google e-commerce product manager at Tom Fallows. Google Wallet and Google Shopping is believed to be tightly tied into the service.
Google Shopping Express could be a way for the company to capitalize on their November 2012 acquisition of BufferBox, a company that delivers e-commerce goods to physical kiosks. Amazon.com is testing a similar locker service in New York, Seattle, and the United Kingdom.
