RUMOR: LinkedIn Is Acquiring Pulse For Over $50 Million

Pulse is a news reading application for the iPhone, iPad, and Android.  Around 20 million people use the Pulse app to read the news per day and 4 billion stories have been read by users to date.  Rumor has it that professional social networking company LinkedIn has is going to acquire Pulse for between $50 and $100 million.

According to AllThingsD, Microsoft and Yahoo! were also interested in buying the Pulse app.  The company behind Pulse, Alphonso Labs, raised $10 million in funding from Redpoint Ventures, Greycroft Partners, Mayfield Fund, Lightspeed Investment Partners, New Enterprise Associates, and Lerer Ventures.

Some of LinkedIn’s other major recent acquisitions were from CardMunch, Rapportive, and SlideShare.
